Sample #5: The Bossy vs Helpful Format



Here’s another example where an organization — in this case, a government social service — has used “must” to indicate eligibility.

The bossy format is meant to push away people who don’t qualify; the helpful format is meant to draw in people who do qualify. That distinction represents a whole different attitude about how to deal with the public.
